What is Prophesy?

A prophecy is a process in which one or more messages that have been communicated to a true prophet are then communicated to others by this true prophet. Such messages typically involve divine inspiration, interpretation, or revelation of conditioned events to come (divine knowledge) as well as testimonies or repeated revelations that the world is divine. The process of prophecy especially involves reciprocal communication of the true prophet with the (divine) source of the messages. Mere claimants of foreknowledge of future events – like fortune-tellers, oracles, seers, diviners or authors of apocalypticism – are not considered true prophets.

Trust Him

Trusting God is something that most people don't have a problem with. You will never ever find a reason not to trust Him. Most people question God and question the Bible in the form of trying to prove weather or not there is a God. Here are a couple factors that we can consider when it comes to Trusting God and His Word.

Trust in The Bible

The Bible has been tested over and over, and there in not one single thing in the Bible that you can not trust. Now every so often someone comes along to prove the Bible wrong. in fact hundreds of times someone has claimed the Bible as not being true, and every single time one of these people come up with their conclusion of error, it later comes out that the Bible was right after all.

God gave us the Bible and His written Word thru a number of writers and prophets. These written words are formed by God to do a couple very specific purposes.

First, it is a documentation of historical events.

There are many historical events in the Bible, and many historians actually use the Bible as a document of history facts. Unfortunately their research takes an abrupt stop whenever their own personal beliefs get in the way. People are stubborn in that they will only believe what they want to believe. When It comes to the Bible every single Word is the truth of God and can is an actual historical document.

There are a quite a few learning lessons in the form of parables that may or may not have actually happened. But there is no question of the story being told, so in all reality that is history in truth.

Second, it is a validation and proof of God's existences and credibility.

Now comes the focus of testing the Bible, God gives plenty of proof. Even thought there is no need for anyone to actually test the Bible, God has certainly done His job of showing people that His Bible is completely true.

One of the biggest ways God was proving Himself was by prophesy and then fulfilling prophesy. This is one of the main reasons why we have an old testament and then a new testament. As you start studying the Bible, you will realize that there are hundreds of prophesies in the old testament that were written hundreds of years before the new testament. The majority of these prophesies have already been fulfilled, and there are only a few left that were referring to the end of days which are soon to be.

There are also prophecies in the old testament that were fulfilled in the old testament. They were some times fulfilled in days and other times they were fulfilled years later. The new testament also has the prophecies of short and long fulfillment. You can be sure from the hundreds of prophecies fulfilled in the past that every one of the prophecies of the future events will also be fulfilled.

You see there is one thing about God, and that is, when He says He is going to do something, He does it.

The element of time between prophesy documented and prophesy fulfilled is a necessity for the validation of truth. This was used for the people of thousands of years ago to see God's truth in the proof, and it is still true today. There is no getting around the hundreds of proofs of His Truth.

Third, it is a guideline of His purpose to live by.

God has used all the events in History for His purposes in the Bible. Some things show us how we should live, and others show us how we should not live. I have heard the acronym for the B.I.B.L.E:

Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth

Fourth, it is a prophecy of things to come.

This is one of the most important elements that we can come to understand when it comes to the Bible. God has proven the History of the Bible as being the complete truth. He has validated it in more ways that we can count. And He has given the Bible for us to learn how to live better lives for Him. And beyond everything else, He is teaching us the things that are to happen. There are a lot of events in the Bible that have not yet happened, and we can trust the Bible, knowing that these things are going to happen. We will get into prophesy in later lessons.
